haul: november ipsy bag

I finally signed up for a monthly subscription! Everything else seemed like it was either too expensive (i.e. glossybox) or it wasn't worth the monthly price for the items. The past two ipsy bags I've seen on the blogosphere had me very interested in signing up, and for only $10 with shipping included, why not?! Plus I figured it would get my monthly dose of "makeup exposure" and would keep me sane from buying more makeup, haha.

November's ipsy bag comes in a small brown makeup pouch and includes 5 items, 2 which are full-size and 3 sample sizes.

The contents inside. It also included a $20 off discount for justfab but I don't know where that went since I was too excited when I got it that I opened everything and used it, lol.

This item is full size! You can wear it over a base color for some added sparkle, or put multiple coats and make it opaque enough to wear by itself! I may have enjoyed a different color, but I already have many plain nail polish shades so this glittery concoction is a nice addition to my collection.

Above is displayed, from left to right, 3 coats, 2 coats, 1 coat, and bare nail.

It's definitely a buildable color, don't you agree? The glitter definitely clings on better when there is a textured surface. Hence why the second coat is much more opaque than the first!

November's bag also included an eyeshadow from the Meet Matt(e) palette by theBalm! I've always wanted to try out theBalm's product to see if they were any good and turns out the eyeshadow is very pigmented, smooth, and just overall good quality.

I spy the "nudetude" palette on hautelook right now, I may have to purchase that since that's what I've been on the fence about.

I received Matt Batali, which I believe is what everyone else got from all the bags I've personally seen. The shade is a rich, dark, chocolatey color. It's not exactly black but I wouldn't classify it as just a brown. It has this really nice smokiness to it and I used it to deepen my eyeshadow a few times already. It's very pigmented, so beware!

This lipgloss looks so dark in the tube, but when you apply it alone it really isn't that dark. It gives a nice berry tint to your lips but if you want the full effect I'd recommend layering it over a vampy lipstick. It's also minty, which I like! It makes me feel like I'm wearing lipbalm or something and I'd say it's a sticky lipgloss which means it'll keep my lips hydrated as I wear it and will be more prone to actually lasting.

A closer look at the shade. It's not quite this dark in my opinion but the bathroom lighting was not cooperating with me.

The applicator is an angled doe-foot wand which works nicely. My preference would be a brush applicator but this is more common.

Above is one normal layer of the lipgloss. I should've taken a naked lip picture for comparison but the gloss tints my lips just a little bit.

This is with an additional "globbing" on the gloss. It doesn't look much different from the other swatch, but I got confused while uploading the photos for this blog post so I'm sure none of y'all will notice a difference either.

Another full-size product. It's a black pencil liner but I would've say it's a deep black but rather an mediocre black. I used this to line my eyes, top and bottom lash line, and I fell asleep and it didn't smear or migrate. It did have some wear on it when I woke up but in my opinion it held up pretty well!

It's dull because I've used it a few times by the time I took this photo, sorry! I didn't want to sharpen it because one of the first things I noticed about this was it looked as if my grandmother had sharpened it with a knife instead of a sharpener.

I've never heard of this brand before but after trying it out I'm not quite sold on the product either. The packaging it comes in feels very cheap and so does the wand compared to my previous experience with the Anastasia Brow Gel. I do understand this is a sample size so the full-sized version might be better in the quality of the packaging but I can't say I'm remotely interested in purchasing that. I've used it on my brows and it gives a soft natural hold while still defining your brows. I can't say how it holds up during the day though since I didn't really recheck at the end of the night.

Here's the wand. It's just simple and basic. From what I remember the wand on the Anastasia one is more of an oval shape and it was actually soft. Maybe my standards are too high?

Above I used the Chella brow gel over my eyebrows with nothing else applied on there. I also lined my upper lash line with the Starlette liner and then I used Matt Batali on the lower lash line and I ran a little in the crease to show that it can be used lightly for a light wash.

I personally wouldn't use the eyeshadow on my brows just because it would be too harsh for my liking and I don't think it'd compliment my skin tone very well. Sorry for the red eyes, they were irritated and it was about 2am when I took these photos!

If you're interested in signing up for ipsy, check out their website. It's $10 a month and so far I'm a happy customer! I actually received mine about a week and a half ago, I've just been lazy to take photos and post but I read on the comments on the site that some people haven't received theirs yet so that might be a factor in not purchasing.

Hope this helps anyone!

fotd: thanksgiving dinner

It did not feel like Thanksgiving this year. It was a good 60 degrees in Texas and everyone was out in shorts. No one froze their butts off waiting outside Best Buy for Black Friday. Ohhh, doesn't feel like the holidays at all! BUT, it was a lot better than last year, which I spent alone in an empty house since my family was out of the country.

I'm very happy I got to spend it with the people I love and most importantly, good food! :) I was so hungry I didn't even want to take a picture before I ate, haha.

Anyway, how was your Thanksgiving?!

This is the look I wore on Thursday to my boyfriend's family's house. I wanted to wear something subtle since his family doesn't really wear cosmetics. It was smokier in person but of course crappy camera = crappy photos. Plus I took this again after I came home so no natural daylight, sorry!

See, I kept it very minimal!
Viva Glam Nicki is actually brighter in person but since I'm pretty tanned it doesn't photograph as bright on me. Don't get me wrong, it's very wearable although it's bright. I'll have to wear it again and take a photo during the day to really capture it for y'all! :)

Have a great day, everyone!

fotd: purple skies

I had this craving to wear colors the other day and came across some eye shadows I forgotten I even purchased. (Yes, I forget.)

I took these photos at the end of the night and my skin looks a bit oily with the flash on so I cropped out the face, I almost didn't post this because I'd prefer to have the natural day light!

***

Has anyone ever looked at the sky at odds times of the day? It's gorgeous. There's hints of dark blue, purples, lighter blues, pinks, and oranges! I can honestly say I haven't seen that in a while because I'm caught up in other things!

I guess that's what this look sort of reminded me of after I felt it was finished. I used a dark blue between the lighter blue and purple but it didn't really capture it on photo :( (black friday is coming up, time to invest in a new camera, hopefully!)

Without further ado, here it is!

Hope that wasn't too boring! I'm not too sure of all the colors I used off the top of my head, but if you're absolutely curious just ask.

Thanksgiving. The time where I feast and shortly after, take a nap. My family celebrates on Wednesday so we aren't on a time crunch (and food coma) when we visit the in-laws. What are your plans for Thanksgiving?

Drugstore Makeup Haul

(wow, yes a haul!)

This is me, trying to blog on my phone. A warning though, pictures are slightly blurry because my phone is very... let's say used and not broken, haha.

I used the app nostalgio for the frames & you can somewhat see my boyfriend playing battlefield 3 in the background. On my nails are Deborah Lippman's Across the Universe (which is not at all what it looks like in real life!)

Err, I really didn't want to haul because I ended up spending $25 (which if you've followed my past few posts I'm trying to save money) but my mascara was getting old and so was my eyeliners. If it weren't bothering me at all I would've have replaced it just yet but I can feel my eyes getting itchier than normal... it has to be the mascara & eyeliner, yes??

I also grabbed some hair ties which I didn't photograph because everyone knows what they look like and there's only so common. (Although I did see some new rubber types there but they didn't seem promising.)

Here's the few items I picked up!
Maybelline Master Precision Liquid Liner in Black, $6.44 @ Walmart
I picked this up because I was watching stylesuzi's video a while back and she swears by this liner! I didn't even know maybelline made a pen liner so I had to pick it up and try it :) I still like the physician's formula one I was using (mentioned in this post) but that one is almost twice the cost of this one at walmart so I passed for the time being. I mean, if someone's raved about it before it must be a decent product right??

Nexxus Pro-Mend Split End Binding Leave-In Treatment, $9.47 @ Walmart
I ended up splurging on this item. I didn't mean to but the boyfriend said "anything else you want to look at?" and I quickly thought... split end repair! I've been struggling with my hair splitting like it's never done before. I even chopped off 3 inches from every layer yet I can still see splitting! My hair has never been in this condition which I'm thinking it happened over the summer from washing my hair too frequent and using a 2-in-1 shampoo at my boyfriend's place and then constant styling and Texas heat without applying treatment first. I'm not hoping for this to miraculously repair my split ends up hopefully do something to them!

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara in Extreme Black, $5.47 @ Walmart
It was between this and a few maybelline mascaras! Maybelline hasn't been impressing me much the past year with their mascaras (they're all okay and all, just not "wow" worthy) so I decided to give Rimmel another chance! I'm hoping this will make my lashes super dark and give some moderate length and volume.

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Peach Kiss, $2.97 @ Walmart
This product has been out since forever! I didn't realize how inexpensive it is compared to the Revlon Lip Butters, which I love but don't wanna pay full price for. If I end up liking this I may go and get some of the bolder shades since I hear it's quite pigmented and it'd be perfect for an informal everyday bold lip :)

Has anyone tried these products, and if you have what are your thoughts on them?

I really wanted to do a halloween look for y'all but I ended up not doing much for halloween and staying home, studying for tests so hopefully next year when I expect to be finished with school!

Until next time!
